Here at 2young4guns we are pressed on ending the use of child soldiers in Africa. Our first mission: tO stop the lords resistance army from abducting children from their homes to fight on the front lines. How will we do this? First, take a look at some information about the lRA, and child soldiers.
The LRa Was founded in 1986 by international criminal Joseph Kony. The primary goal of the rebel force was to oppose the Ugandan people's defense force. The group began with mass numbers, but by 2007, those numbers had dwindled down to approximately 5,000. This number is steadily decreasing, but no rate could be fast enough. The LRa is still responisble for the death of thousands of men, women, and children.
The Lords Resistance Army (LRA) is a rebel force led by international criminal Joseph Kony, with the main goal to oppose the government of Uganda. The LRA primarily operates in Uganda and south Sudan; however, they have also branched out into central Africa in the attempt of recruiting new members. They have affected thousands by raiding villages, kidnapping children, and raping women. This problem has been acknowledged by the international community in the past, but no major progress has been made. Laws have been passed and actions have been taken without any significant results. Our goal is to seek help from the UN to better train the Ugandan military so they can prevent kidnappings, protect the people of their countries, and bring Joseph Kony to justice.
Effects of being a child soldier
- THe children are beaten and desensitized to violence
- They are removed from their families, and their parents are often killed in front of them
- During the brutal training the kids are put through, they are left scarred and hurt
- The Lra mutilates the children for disobeying, doing things including cutting off hands, noses, ears, and in some cases whole limbs
Here is a graph showing recent LRA abductions in various countries
As you can see the abductions are decreasing rapidly, and with our continued effort, we hope to rid Africa of the LRa completely by 2015
As you can see the abductions are decreasing rapidly, and with our continued effort, we hope to rid Africa of the LRa completely by 2015
- Abductions are going down, but not fast enough
- With the UN intervening as we propose, these numbers would drop in less than a year
